After I brought my friend to the Incheon Airport and saw her off, I set off towards my next adventure! Natasha and I had booked our flights impulsively at 4 AM because we both wanted to visit the island and were free this weekend. I had previously planned to go with my other friends from KU, however, due to our Busan plans being pushed back, I decided to go to Jeju earlier so that I could go to Busan in the later weekend. Natasha made a video about our trip which can be found on YOUTUBE! Check it out in the link below to see a summary of what we did including picking tangerines, visiting the market, bowling at J Rock Cafe, eating the famous black pork belly that is well known in Jeju, and visiting several mountains and waterfalls!

Today after class I had a meal in Anam and tried Banquet Soup for the first time. Although the restaurant was a bit small and very crowded when I went, I was able to get sit at one of the counters with two of my friends (Niki and Amber). It had a self service area for water and ban chan such as kimchee, and pickled daikon. At around 3 pm, I went to Starfield Coex Mall located in Gangnam. One thing to note is that to get there I took the Bundang Line - however, I learned today that this line runs irregularly and does not come every 5 to 10 minutes but rather had a specific timetable of when the subway would arrive: After getting to COEX Mall, I went to visit the iconic Coex Library inside to view the new display of polar bear structures and a large spiral Christmas tree. Then I ate at the Food Court (which took a while to find due to the large size of the mall as it was combined with other malls) and had a Pad Thai dish and Cider that totaled 11,900 KRW.
After dinner I shopped at a stationary/home goods store called Butter and bought adorable South Korea themed stamp stickers, magnets, a journal book, a Japanese matcha snack, and a box of foot detoxifying pads to try by Slowlab. The total was 29,900 KRW. With these items, I thought that it would be cool or interesting to try scrap booking about my experiences while studying abroad (hopefully I would be able to try to make one)! After shopping I visited the SM Town Museum next to the mall. It was very interesting because this time I went into the shops and was able to see what kind of Kpop merchandise was available. Today was yet another eventful day!
This morning I arrived home at 7:30 AM from the Incheon Airport Terminal 1 as I went to pick up my friend (Toni) who came to visit me! We arrived at that time because we had to wait for the first airport bus that would go to the station closest to me - this was at 5:40 AM. I decided to take the bus instead of using a taxi in order to save money because the taxi ride would have cost about 60,000 - 70,000 KRW which is very expensive considering the bus tickets cost 10,000 KRW each! I took my friend to the Lotte Department Mall Cheongyangni station for a late lunch at the Food Hall and had a Tonkatsu dish that came with miso soup, diakon, kimchee, rice, and a shredded cabbage side all for 8,500 KRW! I then went to Ewha University to meet up with my KUBA group at 4:30 PM as we had a traditional Korean food cooking lesson event! This was a very fun event as our instructor not only showed us what to do but because she knew that we were majority foreign students, she was teaching us how to say the ingredients in the Korean language. I enjoyed this part of the class because it made it feel more like lesson where I would better remember how to use each ingredient. I also liked how cooking the two dishes was a team effort as everyone contributed by cutting vegetables, measuring the ingredients, frying the dish, or washing the dishes at the end. It was also enjoyable because the recipes were simple, yet delicious! After class I headed to the Seoul Lantern Festival at Cheonggyecheon Stream. This is a beautiful event in which I Seoul You had displayed large lanterns in the middle of the stream, separating them into themes such as Fairy tale characters or Traditional/Historical themes. There was also a section in which people were able to purchase a Wish Lantern that had a (bright white light that looked amazing during the night), write their wishes or any kind of note on them, and float it into a sectioned off area of the stream. As they gathered near the dam-like area, it reminded me of a lantern floating festival type of event. |
